We recorded the track on one iPhone – we tried 2 but the 2nd phone sounded too fucked up cuz we put it on a vent – we got tired so kept the one good take. We did this in about 3 takes.
We added some vocals onto the track after by just shouting shit on the same iPhone and then we just smashed the pieces together in an editor not using any effects whatsoever and did a very basic, out of the box mix. It took some trickery and was painstaking at moments but the cues all hit and this is what you got. It was really fun – like a 24 hr film project or something.
Growing up in Hamilton the Vapids name was synonymous with independence and punk – straight up. Larry from the band grew up playing in bands with Jimmy and Adam our drummer would always see him playing around town, in fact he seemed to just follow him to whatever local punk shows he was attending. We all just knew the band were special and that they carrying a torch wrapped in leather that no one could fuck with.
The big thing for Adam – the drummer, was going to Jimmy's too-short-lived record store hthat he owned on Hess Street in Hamilton called REIGNING SOUND. This was where somebody a bit younger especially got to know Jimmy because he was very helpful all of the time. It was the one shop that you HAD to ask for recommendations because this is pre-internet and this garage rock scene is flourishing and there are these incredible releases just filling the store – i mean just the NAME of his store fucking ruled. I got hip to a lot of new stuff thanks to Jimmy. He was surprisingly genuine, no bullshit.
I still see Jimmy at shows – he and the Vapids stand for never stop checking out new shit and just keep going, fuck the rest.
This song was actually covered years and years ago by one of Larry's first bands called Spoiled Rotten. It was a bit souped up and had all these extra back up vocals so I think Larry was comfortable with it as a selection and wanted to go back to his own roots in a way.
The Spoiled Rotten record that the cover appeared on had artwork by Darren Merinuk on it. So this is just a full circle thing for Larry (guitars/vocals) in the band. This song just takes us all way, way back to good punk rock 'n roll times!

This is exactly what the songs of HEAD needed; an update with better production value and a faster pace.
Jolly good job, everyone involved! Soul_Food_Radio
