I recorded the songs with Four iPhones with auxiliary mics spaced around me. One room phone. One vocal phone. Two acoustic guitar phones. Ran it through Garage Band iPhone App.
The RAMONES are the greatest band to have ever walked the earth, but THE VAPIDS have always been my favorite band. All other bands pale in comparison. A true DIY punk rock band. And honestly, they are the best dudes I’ve ever dealt with in a band. Hands down. All bands should conduct themselves like THE VAPIDS. Truth.
I opened for THE VAPIDS sometyme in 2007 at a shithole bar in Marysville, PA. I can’t remember the exact date. I was drunk most of the 2000’s. It was one of only two shows they did in the States to support the release of “TPRTS”. In my set I covered “Cynical Solution” how I would have played it, had I wrote it. My old band THE STRIKEOUTS did a split 7” inch with THE VAPIDS in 2001. “Cynical Solution” was the A-side of THE VAPIDS side. A perfect song. My favorite song of theirs, even after all these years. The song has depth, and sharp teeth. As all songs should. After my set, Jimmy came up to me and said something to the effect of how great the cover was, and that’s how he heard it in his head. I’m paraphrasing, of course. Drunk, remember? Either way, It meant a lot. Here’s a dude who I’ve known and been playing shows with since ‘98, a fan since ‘96… telling me he loved my interpretation of one of his tunes. Pretty fucking cool. I covered it exactly the same way for this compilation per Jimmy Vapid’s request via email. “God Bless The Internet”. So, yeah… “My right to remain is under fire, and it’s changing with the tymes. Go and find your own way out, ‘cause I already have mine.” Amen.
